Where it shines

Hard sun, silhouettes, crossings and shadows on the pavement. In strong light a busy scene turns into a few clear shapes of light and dark.

What to watch

Highlights clip early, so white walls and pale skies lose texture, and a grey day can turn muddy. For softer black and white, try Silver.

Every photograph here was rendered by Photonica with the preset as it opens in the editor. Results vary with the light and colour in your photo. Everyday, Road Trip and Street are free; the other nine presets come with Pro. Guest editing includes three exports a day; a free account removes that daily limit and lets you save your own presets.
